Fancy / Bold Text Generator

Type plain text and get it converted into bold, italic, or stylized Unicode characters — the kind that display as formatted text even in places that don’t support real formatting, like a social media bio or username field.

This works because Unicode includes full alternate character sets that visually resemble bold, italic, script, and other styles, distinct from the regular alphabet. A platform that strips real HTML/Markdown formatting from bios and captions can’t strip these, since they’re just different characters, not formatting codes.

Type your text once and every style generates simultaneously — sixteen in total, including Bold, Italic, Bold Italic, Script, Bold Script, Fraktur, Bold Fraktur, Double-Struck, Sans-serif, Sans Bold, Monospace, Fullwidth, Small Caps, Circled, Squared, Superscript, and Subscript, plus Strikethrough and Underline, which layer as combining marks on top of any of the other styles instead of standing alone. Copy whichever one fits your context and paste it directly into a bio, caption, or post.

Switch the platform preset to Instagram, X/Twitter, Discord, or WhatsApp and the list reorders to put the styles people actually use on that platform near the top, alongside a live character count against that platform’s real limit — so you can see immediately if your stylized bio or caption is going to get cut off. Star any style to pin it permanently to the top of the list regardless of platform, and wrap the result in a decorative border (sparkles, stars, or a few other presets) if you want a bit more flourish than the raw text alone.

Already have stylized text from somewhere else and want to know what it actually says, or need it back in plain text to search or sort by? Switch to Reverse mode, paste it in, and it converts back to ordinary characters.

Frequently asked questions

Will this stylized text display correctly everywhere?

Mostly, but not universally — since these are genuine Unicode characters rather than actual formatting, support depends on the font and platform rendering them; extremely rare or older systems occasionally show a fallback box instead of the intended character.

Does this work for languages other than English?

Coverage is strongest for the standard Latin alphabet and numbers, since that’s what most of these stylized Unicode blocks were designed around — non-Latin scripts generally aren’t supported by the same character sets.

Is this the same as real bold text in an app that supports formatting?

No — where real bold/italic formatting is available (most documents, many chat apps), use that instead, since it’s more universally readable and accessible; this tool is specifically for contexts that don’t support real formatting at all.

What’s the point of the platform presets?

They don’t change the styles themselves — they just reorder the list and show a character-limit counter relevant to wherever you’re pasting it. An Instagram bio, a Discord nickname, and a tweet all have different length limits and slightly different conventions for which styles read well, so the preset saves you scrolling past styles nobody uses on that particular platform.

Can I combine styles — bold and strikethrough at the same time, for example?

Yes. Strikethrough and Underline are separate checkboxes that apply on top of whatever style you’re looking at, rather than being their own exclusive option, so you can layer either or both onto Bold, Script, Small Caps, or anything else in the list at once.

Someone sent me stylized text — can I convert it back to normal?

Yes, using Reverse mode. It maps each stylized character back to its plain-text original. A very small number of decorative or ambiguous characters may not have a clean reverse mapping and will be left as-is, but standard bold/italic/script/etc. text converts back cleanly.

Does anything ever leave my browser?

No. Every style is generated locally from a Unicode character map; nothing you type is uploaded anywhere.
