Turn a Phrase Into an Acronym, or Build a Backronym From Letters. Most acronym tools online do exactly one thing — turn a phrase into its initials — and stop there. This one does that, plus the harder, more useful version of the same problem: going backward. If you already know you want your team, product, or framework to be called something that spells SMART, TEAM, or GROW, typing those letters in and getting matched, on-theme words back for each one is a completely different (and much slower, by hand) task than simply abbreviating a sentence.

The forward direction — phrase to acronym — takes what you type, drops small connector words like “a,” “of,” “the,” and “and” by default (so “Strategic Management and Reporting Tool” becomes SMRT rather than SMART unless you turn that option off, since the two answers genuinely differ), and gives you the result in ALLCAPS, dotted (A.C.), or spaced (A C) form. Is the word bank exhaustive?

No — it’s a curated set per letter and theme, not a full dictionary, so obscure letters like Q, X, and Z have fewer options, and every theme falls back to the generic word bank for any letter it doesn’t specifically cover, so you’ll never hit an empty result.

Does skipping small words apply to the first word of a phrase?

No — the first word is always kept even if it’s normally a skippable word like “The,” so a short phrase never ends up with an empty acronym.
