ShotWithEditor — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 November 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how ShotWithEditor, the browser extension, handles information when you use it.
ShotWithEditor is designed to process screenshots and images locally in your browser. Your screenshots, captured page text, edits, library content and settings are not uploaded to the developer.
Information ShotWithEditor processes#
When you use ShotWithEditor, the extension may process:
- Screenshots and images you capture, open, paste or import.
- The title and URL of a web page you choose to capture.
- Text from a captured page, used for sensitive-information detection, copying text, searchable PDFs and library search.
- Your extension settings and preferences.
- Your saved captures and associated editing information.
- Your Pro license key, if you choose to activate a paid license.
This information is processed to provide the extension's screenshot, editing, redaction, library and export features.
Where your data is stored#
ShotWithEditor stores its working data locally in your browser on your device.
- Library: Saved captures and their associated page text are stored in the browser's local database (IndexedDB). The Free plan supports up to 10 captures and 10 MB in total, with one pinned capture. Pro supports up to 100 captures and 100 MB in total, with 10 pinned captures.
- Settings and plan information: Extension preferences and cached Free or Pro status are stored in local extension storage. ShotWithEditor does not use browser sync storage.
- License key: If you activate Pro, your license key is stored locally so the extension can check your license status.
- Imported images: Images you open, paste, drop or send to the editor from a web page are processed on your device. They remain temporary unless you choose to save them to your library.
- Exported files: Files you export are saved by your browser to your Downloads folder, normally in the ShotWithEditor folder.
- Clipboard: ShotWithEditor writes an image or text to your clipboard only when you explicitly use a Copy action.
You can delete saved captures using the extension's Clear all history option or by removing the extension. Removing the extension also removes its locally stored extension data, subject to the browser's own data-removal behavior.
If you reach a library limit, the extension may remove older unpinned captures to make room for new ones. If your Pro trial or subscription ends, your saved captures are not automatically deleted; the Free library limits apply.
Access to web pages#
ShotWithEditor uses the browser's activeTab permission. This allows the extension to access the tab you invoke it on after you explicitly use the extension, such as by clicking its toolbar button, using a keyboard shortcut or selecting an extension menu item.
The extension does not request permanent access to every website.
Page content is processed for the capture and editing features you request. ShotWithEditor does not intentionally inspect unrelated tabs or send captured page content to the developer.
When you use the right-click image editing feature, the selected image is processed locally. In some circumstances, the original website may need to request the image again if the browser does not make the already-loaded image available to the extension. That request is made by the page to the image's original website, not as an upload of your image to the ShotWithEditor developer.
Redaction and sensitive-information detection#
ShotWithEditor provides blur, pixelation and redaction tools. These tools are designed to remove the original pixels in the selected areas of exported results rather than simply placing a cover over them.
Automatic sensitive-information detection uses text available from the captured web page. It can identify patterns such as email addresses, phone numbers, payment card numbers, IBANs, API keys, tokens, IP addresses, SSNs, long secrets and password fields.
There is no OCR. Automatic text-based detection is available for web-page captures, not imported images. For imported images, you must select the areas to redact manually.
Your screenshots, extracted page text and redaction results are not sent to the developer. Please review every redaction before sharing an exported file. Automated detection may not identify every sensitive item.
Optional Pro plan and Gumroad#
ShotWithEditor offers an optional Pro plan sold through Gumroad.
Purchasing Pro takes place on Gumroad's website. Gumroad handles the purchase process, payment information, receipts and related customer information under its own privacy policy.
The extension does not receive your payment card details.
If you purchase Pro, you can enter the license key supplied by Gumroad into ShotWithEditor's Settings. The extension contacts Gumroad's license API at api.gumroad.com only after you enter a license key and activate it. It may contact the service again periodically to check whether the license remains valid.
The license validation request sends the license key and the product identifier, along with ordinary technical information required for an internet request, such as your IP address.
The extension does not send your screenshots, captured page text, page URLs, library contents or editing settings to Gumroad for license validation.
If you do not enter and activate a license key, ShotWithEditor does not contact Gumroad for license validation.
Gumroad operates under its own privacy policy. Please review Gumroad's policy on its website before making a purchase.
Third parties, tracking and remote code#
ShotWithEditor does not include advertising, analytics, tracking pixels or crash-reporting services.
It does not sell your personal information or upload your screenshots, page text, library contents or settings to the developer.
The only third-party service contacted by the extension itself is Gumroad's license validation service when you choose to activate a Pro license, as described above.
ShotWithEditor does not load remote executable code. Its extension code and bundled libraries are included in the installed package.
Browser permissions#
ShotWithEditor requests browser permissions to provide its features:
- activeTab: Accesses the tab you explicitly choose to capture or use.
- scripting: Runs the capture and page-processing functionality on the tab you invoke.
- storage: Saves extension settings and license-related state locally.
- unlimitedStorage: Allows the local capture library to store larger amounts of data within the browser.
- downloads: Saves files you choose to export.
- contextMenus: Adds the ShotWithEditor actions to the browser's right-click menu.
These permissions are used to provide the extension's stated functionality.
Security and your choices#
ShotWithEditor is designed to keep your screenshots and library data on your device rather than on developer-operated servers.
As with any locally stored browser data, the security and availability of that information also depend on your device, browser profile and operating-system security.
You can clear your saved library from within the extension or remove the extension to remove its locally stored data.
Please remember that files you have already exported or copied to another location are not automatically deleted when you clear the extension's library.
Children#
ShotWithEditor is not designed to collect personal information from children. The extension does not require an account or ask users to submit personal information to the developer.
Any purchase of the optional Pro plan takes place through Gumroad and is subject to Gumroad's own terms and policies.
Changes to this policy#
This Privacy Policy may be updated if ShotWithEditor changes its features, permissions or data practices.
When changes are made, the updated policy will be published at this same policy address with a revised update date. Significant changes may also be described in the extension's release notes.
