Video Cropper: Crop Videos Online, Free and Private
Meta description (156 characters): Crop one video or a whole batch to any size or ratio with a movable box. Export MP4 for Reels, Shorts and TikTok. Runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
What it does
Video Cropper cuts a video down to the part you want. You drag a box over a frame of your video, choose a ratio or an output size, and export a new MP4. It handles one clip or a whole batch: add several videos, give each its own crop (or copy one crop to all of them), and export them one after another into a single zip.
It is built for the everyday jobs: turning a landscape clip into a vertical 9:16 video for Reels, Shorts or TikTok, making a square 1:1 or 4:5 version for a feed post, trimming black bars or a screen recording down to the window that matters, or cutting away something at the edge of the frame. You can also keep the original size or scale the result to a preset such as 1080 × 1920, 1080 × 1080 or 1920 × 1080.
How it works
The crop box sits on a still frame taken from your video, and a small live preview shows exactly what is inside the box. You can drag the slider to pick a different frame, so you can check the crop on any moment of the clip. The numbers for the box (X, Y, width and height, in the video’s own pixels) are editable for precise work, and ratio locks (1:1, 4:5, 9:16, 16:9, 4:3, 3:4, 21:9 or your own) keep the box the right shape.
When you press Export, the video is re-encoded to MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio) by a video engine that runs inside your browser tab. Quality has three settings: High, Balanced and Small file. You can keep or remove the audio and strip metadata such as location and device name. With several videos, they export one after another with a progress bar, an elapsed time and an estimate for each, and you can cancel at any point; the files that already finished are kept.
How to use it
- Click Add videos or drop one or more video files onto the page.
- Drag the box over the picture, or type exact numbers. Pick an aspect ratio or an output size such as the vertical 1080 × 1920 preset.
- Use the slider under the picture to check the crop on a different frame.
- For a batch, click another video in the list to set its crop, or use Apply this crop to all to copy the crop to every video.
- Choose Quality, Audio and metadata options, then press Export MP4 for the open video or Export all for the list.
- Download each file from the list, or press Download all (zip). You can also rename a file before downloading it.
If you want to join clips afterwards, the Video Merger puts several MP4 files into one, and the MP4 to GIF converter turns a cropped clip into a GIF.
FAQ
Is my video uploaded anywhere? No. The video is read and encoded inside your browser tab and never sent to a server. The only download is the video engine itself, the first time you export (see Privacy below).
Does cropping lower the quality? Yes, a little. A crop changes the picture, so the video has to be encoded again; it cannot be copied unchanged. On High quality the loss is very small, Balanced is a good everyday choice, and Small file trades some detail for a much smaller file. The audio is copied unchanged when it is already AAC, and encoded to AAC otherwise.
Why is the exported size sometimes one or two pixels smaller than my box? MP4 with H.264 needs even numbers for the size and position of the picture, so odd values are rounded down to the nearest even number. The size hint under the box tells you when this happens.
How do I make a vertical video for Reels, Shorts or TikTok? Choose the “Story / Reels / TikTok / Shorts” output size. It locks the box to 9:16 and exports at 1080 × 1920. Move the box to the part of the picture you want to keep. For a still frame of a video, the Video Frame Extractor saves single frames as images, and the image Crop tool does the same box-on-picture job for photos.
Why does it say my browser cannot play the file? Some formats, for example H.265 (HEVC) video in a .mov or .mkv file, are not supported by every browser. Video Cropper then uses its own engine to read the file and shows still frames instead of the live preview. The result is exported the same way; the frame behind the box just takes a moment to change when you move the slider.
Can I crop several videos at once? Yes, up to 20 in the list. Each keeps its own crop. They are exported one at a time, because the in-browser engine handles one video at a time, and you can download them separately or as one zip.
Privacy
Everything this tool does is local. Your videos, their crops and the exported files stay in your browser.
- The one download. The first time you export (or add a file your browser cannot play), your browser downloads the video engine, about 24 MB, from a public software library host (jsDelivr). That request carries none of your files or settings. Once the engine is in your browser’s cache, exports work without a connection.
- What is kept on your device. If saved data is switched on, the videos in your list and their crops are kept in your browser’s own storage so a refresh does not lose your work: up to 400 MB per video and 1 GB in total. Anything larger works for the current visit only. Finished MP4 files are not kept; download them before you leave. Clear all videos and saved data removes everything this tool stored.
(When libs.js is switched to vendored:true, replace the first bullet with: “The video engine, about 24 MB, is served from this site and downloaded the first time you export. It makes no request to any other site. Once it is in your browser’s cache, exports work without a connection.”)
Supported formats and limits
- Input: MP4, M4V, MOV, WebM, MKV, AVI, WMV, FLV, MPEG/MPG, OGV, 3GP, TS, MTS and M2TS, up to 600 MB per video and 20 videos in the list. A file your browser cannot play is read by the video engine instead.
- Output: MP4 (H.264 video, AAC audio), up to 8192 × 4320 px. Above 4K the browser may run out of memory; a smaller size is safer.
- It is not lossless. Every export re-encodes the video, and the in-browser engine is slower than software on your computer. Long or very large videos can take a long time or hit your browser’s memory limit; closing other tabs helps.
- One video track and one audio track are exported. Extra audio tracks, subtitles and chapters are dropped.
- HDR and 10-bit video is converted to standard 8-bit colour without tone mapping, so colours can look different. Videos with non-square pixels are not corrected.
- The video engine download is about 24 MB the first time, then it is reused from your browser’s cache.
