Free Receipt Generator — A4, Thermal 80mm & 58mm, Batch PDFs

Make professional receipts free in your browser: multiple taxes, discounts, tips, split payments, logo, signature, QR code, refunds and stamps. A4, Letter or thermal roll. Batch from CSV. Nothing is uploaded.

What it does

The receipt generator turns a list of items, a business profile and a payment into a finished receipt. You get a live preview as you type, then export it as a PDF, a PNG image, plain text for WhatsApp or SMS, or send it to a printer.

It handles the things simple receipt makers skip. You can apply several taxes at once, add per-item and whole-receipt discounts, add a tip, and take split payments with change or a balance due. You can also issue refund and deposit receipts, stamp a receipt PAID, VOID or DUPLICATE, and add your logo, a signature and a QR code.

How it works

Everything runs in your browser. The tool does the arithmetic in whole minor units (cents, kobo, pence), never floating point, so a total can’t drift by a cent.

  • Tax rules: Each tax line is either added on top of your prices or already included in them. Each item can use all taxes, none (exempt), or one specific tax. The tax for each line is calculated once on the combined taxable amount, then rounded — the way a VAT return does it.
  • Discounts: A whole-receipt discount is shared across the items that can be discounted using a largest-remainder split, so the pieces always add up to exactly the discount you entered, and tax is charged on the discounted amount.
  • Rounding: Optional cash rounding (for example to the nearest 0.05) shows up as its own line.
  • Layouts: A4, US Letter, half-page, and 80 mm or 58 mm thermal rolls. Thermal receipts are cut to the exact length of the content, and the layout is drawn with real selectable text.
  • Currency and language: Any common ISO currency, with correct decimals for currencies such as the yen, or a custom symbol. Labels come in English, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese, and every label can be edited.
  • QR code: It is generated on your device from the text you choose, such as https://example.com/verify/{no}. Nothing is looked up online.

How to use it

  1. Enter your business name and details, and drop in a logo if you want one.
  2. Add items with a quantity and unit price. Add a tax line if you charge tax and choose whether it is already included in your prices.
  3. Set any discount, tip, shipping or rounding, then add how the customer paid. Leave an amount blank to mean “the exact remaining balance”.
  4. Pick a layout and currency in the side panel and check the preview.
  5. Choose Download PDF, Print / Save as PDF, Download PNG image, or Copy as text.

Your business details, logo, signature and numbering are remembered in this browser, so the next receipt starts from where you left off. Receipt numbers count up automatically after each export.

Batch mode: hundreds of receipts from a spreadsheet

Switch to Batch from CSV, download the template, and fill in one row per item. Rows that share a receipt number become one receipt. The tool builds a PDF for each and gives you one ZIP with a summary CSV. If your spreadsheet has stray spaces or mixed encodings, tidy it first with the CSV cleaner, and use the CSV merger if your sales come from more than one export.

Receipt or invoice?

A receipt confirms money already received. If you still need to be paid, issue an invoice instead, then create the receipt when the payment arrives. A deposit receipt covers the middle case, where part has been paid and a balance is still due.

Privacy

Nothing you type, upload or generate is sent to a server. The first PDF, QR or PNG export downloads a small open-source library from a CDN, and after that it works offline. Your saved business profile, logo, signature and last receipt stay in your own browser storage. Use Clear saved data on a shared computer.

Limitations

  • The direct PDF uses standard fonts covering Latin-1 characters and the euro sign. Other symbols and scripts (₦, ₹, Chinese and so on) can’t be drawn there: the currency symbol prints as its code (for example NGN), and unsupported letters print as ?. The page warns you when this applies. Print / Save as PDF and PNG keep every character.
  • Total-in-words is English only.
  • Compound taxes (tax charged on top of another tax) aren’t supported. A receipt is a record of a sale, not a tax filing, so check local rules on what yours must show.

FAQ

Can I make a thermal (POS) receipt for a 58mm or 80mm printer? Yes. Choose the 80 mm or 58 mm layout. The PDF is exactly the width of the roll and as long as the content needs, with no wasted paper. Use Print / Save as PDF to send it to your receipt printer.

Can one receipt include several taxes, or tax on only some items? Yes. Add as many tax lines as you need (for example VAT and a service charge), mark each as included in the price or added on top, and set each item to all taxes, none, or one specific tax.

How do I make a refund receipt? Set the type to Refund. All amounts show as negative and the stamp switches to REFUND. Use Deposit for a part-payment receipt that shows the balance still due.

Will my receipt numbers continue next time? Yes. Set a prefix, padding and starting number once. The counter goes up after each export, and you can override any number by typing it in.

Is my customer information uploaded anywhere? No. The tool runs in your browser and has no server component. Your last receipt is kept in your browser storage for convenience, and you can wipe it with Clear saved data.

Can I save a receipt and edit it later? Yes. Save receipt (.json) writes everything, including your logo and signature, to a small file that you can load again later.
