Open an iPhone HEIC or HEIF photo and convert it to JPG or PNG right in your browser. Batch convert a whole camera roll, resize on export, and keep transparency — no uploads, no signup.

What it does

Drop in one or many .heic / .heif photos — the format iPhones save by default — and this tool decodes them and lets you view and convert each one to JPG or PNG. It handles a whole batch at once, so it works just as well for one photo as for an entire AirDropped or “Keep Originals: Off” camera-roll export.

How it works

HEIC isn’t something a browser can open natively — there’s no built-in <img> support for it — so the first time you use this tool, it downloads a small, well-established decoding library and everything runs from there, entirely on your device. Each photo is decoded once into a lossless master image, which is cached in memory: switching the output format or nudging the JPG quality slider re-exports instantly instead of re-decoding the file from scratch.

A few details this tool gets right that a lot of quick online converters don’t:

  • JPG export is flattened onto white first, so if a HEIC photo happens to carry transparency, it doesn’t silently turn black — a common gotcha when a browser canvas exports a transparent region as a JPEG.
  • Burst-mode / multi-image HEIC files are detected. If a file contains more than one embedded photo, you can preview and pick between frames instead of only ever getting the first one.
  • Resizing never upscales. Set a max dimension and larger photos are scaled down to fit; smaller ones are left alone.

How to use it

  1. Drag your .heic or .heif files onto the drop zone, or click it to browse.
  2. Wait a moment for each thumbnail to appear — that’s the decode step.
  3. Pick JPG or PNG as your output format, and adjust quality or max dimension in the sidebar if you want.
  4. Download a single file from its card, or use Convert all & download each / Download all as .zip for a batch.
  5. If a file turns out to have multiple frames, a row of frame thumbnails appears under its card — click through to choose which one(s) to export.

Didn’t get the file size down enough? Send the converted photo straight to the image compressor with the “Send to” button in the sidebar.

FAQ

Does this upload my photos anywhere? No. The HEIC file is decoded and converted entirely in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server — that’s true of every tool on this site.

Why won’t my iPhone photo open in [some other app/website]? HEIC is Apple’s default photo format since iOS 11, and a lot of software — including many websites and some Windows/Android apps — still can’t read it without a plugin. Converting to JPG or PNG here sidesteps that.

Will converting lose quality? Converting to PNG is lossless. Converting to JPG re-compresses the image, so pick a high quality (90%+) if you want the result close to indistinguishable from the original.

What’s a “multi-frame” HEIC file? Some HEIC photos — Live Photos’ still frame plus a couple of neighboring frames, or burst shots — bundle more than one image into a single file. This tool detects that and lets you pick or export every frame instead of only converting the first one.

Can I convert a whole folder at once? Yes — select or drag multiple files in at once, then use “Convert all” or download everything as a single .zip.

Does this handle HEIC videos or Live Photos’ video half? No — only the still-image side. The paired .mov motion file isn’t something this tool touches.
