Abstract Avatar Generator — Free Geometric Avatars, PNG & SVG, No AI
Generate unique geometric avatars from any name or email. 8 styles, 16 palettes, real SVG export, bulk zip. Same seed, same avatar. Free and runs in your browser.
What it does
Type any text — a name, a username, an email address — and get a unique abstract avatar for it. The same text always produces the same picture, so you can give every user of your app, forum or Discord server a consistent default avatar without storing anything.
You can tweak the style, palette, shape and symmetry, then export a PNG, WebP, JPEG or a real vector SVG. It’s not an AI image generator: every avatar is drawn by a small, deterministic algorithm, so there are no odd artefacts and no rights questions about training data.
Features
Eight styles
Pixel grid (a symmetric identicon), Bauhaus tiles, gradient orbs, low-poly triangles, concentric rings, waves, marble, and initials on a gradient.
Full control
- 16 hand-tuned palettes, a palette derived from the seed, or your own colours.
- Pull a palette out of any image you drop in — the colours are picked locally. If you need a closer look at a photo’s colours first, the colour picker samples and extracts palettes too.
- Circle, squircle, rounded square, square or hexagon masks.
- Mirror or four-way symmetry, density and complexity sliders, 90° rotation steps, optional film grain, and transparent or custom backgrounds.
- An optional initials overlay with a live contrast readout so the letters stay readable.
Export
- SVG for infinitely sharp avatars, with the same look as the PNG.
- PNG, WebP or JPEG up to 4096 px.
- One-click sizes for common platforms (X, LinkedIn, GitHub, Discord, Slack, Gravatar, Instagram, YouTube) — check each site’s current recommendation before uploading.
- A size set zip with 16 to 512 px PNGs plus the SVG. To go on and make a browser icon, the favicon generator builds a full favicon package from one image, and the format converter handles AVIF and ICO.
- Copy the image, the SVG code or a data URI straight to your clipboard.
Bulk
Paste one name or email per line and download a zip with one avatar each, named after the line. Duplicate lines are skipped.
How it works
Your seed text is normalised (trimmed, Unicode-normalised, lower-cased) and run through a 128-bit hash. That feeds a small pseudo-random number generator, and every choice — which cells are filled, which colours are used, where a shape sits — is drawn from it in a fixed order. Nothing random is used except the Randomize button, so results are reproducible on any device.
The avatar is described once as a list of simple shapes, and that single description is turned into both the canvas image and the SVG. That’s why the vector export matches the bitmap.
A recipe — a short code starting with AV1. — captures every setting. Copy it to reproduce an avatar exactly later or on another device, and paste it back to restore it.
How to use it
- Type a seed into the box, or press Randomize.
- Pick a style and a palette.
- Adjust shape, symmetry, density and the other sliders until it looks right.
- Click a thumbnail under Variations to jump to a different seed with the same settings; star the ones you like.
- Choose a size and format, then press Download.
Privacy
Avatars are generated entirely in your browser, and your settings, favorites and any image you use for a palette are kept in your own browser storage. The only network use outside the optional extras below is the first zip export (size set or bulk), which downloads a small open-source zip library from cdnjs.cloudflare.com — none of your data is sent, and it’s cached afterwards.
There is one optional exception. Under Online extras you can tick a box that explicitly allows internet access. Only then can the tool look up a Gravatar (a SHA-256 hash of the email you type is sent to gravatar.com, not the address itself) or load a web font for the initials (Google Fonts). Leave the box unticked and nothing is contacted.
Limitations
- A web font used for initials is embedded in the PNG but only referenced by name in the SVG, so the SVG shows it only on systems that have that font installed. System fonts are always safe.
- Initials are built from letters and digits; emoji in a name are ignored for the initials.
- The SVG and PNG are the same design, but letter shapes can differ very slightly between the two renderers.
FAQ
Will the same name always give the same avatar?
Yes, as long as the style, palette and other settings are the same. Case and surrounding spaces are ignored, so Ada@Example.com and ada@example.com match.
Can I use these avatars commercially?
They are generated by an algorithm from your own text, so there’s nothing to license. Use them in your app, community or product.
Is it safe to enter an email address?
The address is only used as text to seed the picture, in your browser. It isn’t stored except in your own local history, and it is only transmitted if you tick the internet box and press the Gravatar button.
How do I get the same avatar in my own app?
Export the SVG or PNG for each user and store the files, or keep the recipe code. This tool doesn’t ship a library — it produces the images.
Why do the “from seed” palettes look different from the presets?
The palette is generated from your text using a colour-harmony scheme, so every seed gets its own colours instead of one of 16 fixed sets.
What’s the maximum size?
4096 px per side, or lower if your browser’s canvas limit is smaller. SVG has no size limit.
